I know I'm not the only one feeling overwhelmed by all that is happening in the world right now. It feels like whenever I open my phone, there’s more bad news, another tragedy, another reason to scroll and scroll in hopes of understanding. Obviously, I think it's important to stay informed, but there’s a point when being up to date 24/7 isn’t helping anyone. It’s just draining you and making you feel helpless. And that’s when you know it’s time to unplug for a little bit.
I’m not saying you shouldn’t care or shouldn’t take action when you can make a difference. Not at all. I deeply believe it’s important to stay informed and engaged. But nobody can give 100% all the time. You have to have something left in the tank if you want to keep showing up for the things that matter. For me, that means taking breaks from the constant stream of information—getting offline, getting outside, connecting with people I love. Every time I do, I feel recharged.
That's because, in order to get through uncertain times, you need moments that make you feel safe and grounded. Sometimes that’s as simple as making dinner with your family, sitting in the sun, or taking a walk without your phone. Those moments don’t mean you’re ignoring the world or that you don't care. They can remind you that even when things feel heavy, lightness still exists.
