Here's something I know for sure: ANYBODY can be creative. For me, creativity is something I just have to pursue. And once I realized that there are lots of ways to do that, it became easier to be creative every day.
Years ago, I remember sitting in a waiting room between auditions, waiting for my next job. Waiting is THE hardest part of being an actor. The only way to actually act is to be working. Otherwise you're just taking class—which I was doing, too, and which does help you grow. But it wasn't enough for me. Waiting in a room isn't the same as making something.
So I expanded my view of creativity. Growing up, if I had a few auditions that didn't go anywhere, my mom wouldn't let me feel defeated. She'd challenge me to try something new. One day, she said, "Hey, why don't you try voiceovers?" So I did, and got into animation, and I loved it. My mom taught me there isn't just one path—that you're allowed to do many things.
That attitude is how I started singing, producing, and eventually becoming an entrepreneur. Later, I found that interior design was creatively fulfilling, so I began to flip houses. None of these activities were backup plans or alternatives to acting. They were, and are, just different ways of being creative. Curiosity can help you figure out how to be more creative. When something isn't landing, don't ask "how do I fix this exact thing?" Ask "what's the adjacent version of this I haven't tried yet?"
