Earlier this summer, I went to Paris for the first time in nearly twenty years. It was partly a work trip (wait until you see what we're doing next with Being Frenshe!!) and then I stayed a little longer with my family. It was magical to introduce our daughters to such a beautiful city, culture, and FOOD. All of the food we had in France was incredible. It's remarkable to go to a place where processed food is uncommon and where people are fiercely loyal to their favored cheese shop, bakery, and vegetable market.
The funny thing is that I have a gluten sensitivity, so when I'm home in the States, I avoid bread that isn't gluten-free. But… come on. I was in Paris—how could I skip bread entirely? Well, guess what? I didn't have any issues at all, not even when I was eating two croissants a day and bread at every meal. I really found that my body was able to digest better there, so it's inspired me to look into why that is… and into importing croissants from France. Kidding, kidding.
Speaking of croissants, my friend Lydia is a croissant connoisseur (seriously, check her Only Croissants account) and she suggested croissants from Chez Meunier, Boulangerie Mamiche, and Stohrer (which has been around since 1730). Obviously, we had to try all of them. Can't pick a favorite, but trust me when I say they were all perfection.
I also have to recommend La Fontaine de Mars, a bistro not far from the Eiffel Tower. We went there for dinner and I had the most amazing sourdough bread, prosciutto and melon, fish of the day, and a glass of orange wine. How do you say "take me back right now" in French?
