A Food Lover's Guide to Malibu

By Ashley French
A Food Lover's Guide to Malibu

One of my favorite parts of living in Malibu is the food. It doesn't matter whether you're looking for a four-star experience or just really good takeout for a picnic—you'll find something fresh, locally grown, and delicious. These are the places I find myself coming back to again and again. Don't miss them if you're visiting!

Pura Vida
It's so exciting to get a new restaurant in town! Pura Vida Miami recently arrived and I love it. Finding a spot that has not only healthy options but gluten-free choices all over the menu is so rare. I love the toasted chicken wrap, you can't go wrong with salads, and their coffee and iced lattes are amazing as well.

Malibu Farm Café
Malibu Farm holds a special place in my heart because it's where Chris and I had our rehearsal dinner. I'm a massive fan of the chef, Helene Henderson, and I use her cookbook at home all the time. If you're dining in, don't miss the buckwheat pancakes for breakfast or tacos for dinner.

Lily's Malibu
Hands-down, the best breakfast burritos in Malibu. If you go (and you should—they're famous for their authenticity), you must get the Pancho breakfast burrito.

SunLife Organics
After a workout, I head to SunLife Organics for their Wolverine smoothie. If you're craving an açai bowl or a smoothie, set your GPS for one of their two Malibu locations.

Lucky's Malibu
Lucky's is a classic steakhouse with solid food and excellent service. It's my go-to when I'm craving a steak. They have the absolute best pepper filet and an amazing Philly cheesesteak sandwich. And the kids like it, which is always a plus.

Malibu Mutt's Grill
Malibu Mutt's is a quick, casual take-out window at Malibu Mart. Juju loves to get chicken tenders before we head to the park nearby. It's so nice to be able to enjoy a meal while watching your kid play. My favorite thing here is either the avocado burger or the crispy chicken sandwich with fries. Even if you're normally a salad eater, I promise, you'll really want to go for it here.

Howdy's
Their lobster sushi burrito is one of the best things you'll ever eat. Period, end of story.

Zinqué Café
Zinqué is the place to go for breakfast in town. I order their amazing breakfast bagel sandwich, but I also love grabbing an afternoon coffee here. The space itself is airy and beautifully designed.

Pita Bu
When I'm craving Mediterranean, Pita Bu's falafel never disappoints. It's one of those hidden gems that feels like such a win every time I go.

Nobu
Of course I can't not talk about Nobu. Yes, it's expensive, but their sushi is as top-tier as everyone says it is, and you can't beat the experience of having dinner while waves crash on the shore. My favorites are the artichoke salad (Chris's favorite!), the fried okra starter, the salmon sashimi with dry miso, an order or two of avocado crispy rice, lobster tacos, and wagyu steak with crispy onions and truffle butter. Highly recommended for a special occasion.
